Photoshoot Tours in Tokyo

My name is JG. I’m a portrait photographer based in Tokyo. Experience a photo tour of your favorite Tokyo neighborhood, whether you’re traveling solo or as a couple. Pick one of the four neighborhoods below, and I’ll guide you through its streets and take your portraits at the best spots.

Shibuya

Neon, crossings and backstreets, by day or by night. The busiest streets in Tokyo, used as a backdrop.

Shibuya at dusk: a woman with long brown hair, one hand in her hair, in a cream tweed blazer with a crest over a white turtleneck, the orange lanterns of an izakaya terrace glowing behind her.

Shinjuku

Neon signs, Kabukicho and the lanes of Omoide Yokocho, by day or by night. Tokyo at its most cinematic.

Shinjuku by night: long auburn hair, a backward cap and glasses, a satin bomber jacket, one hand on a graffiti wall in a narrow alley of stickers and cables.

Shimokitazawa by Day

Second-hand shops, narrow lanes and low buildings. Daylight, and a quieter crowd than Shibuya.

Shimokitazawa by day: a couple in front of an old wooden shopfront, she standing with a hand on his shoulder, he seated on the kerb in sunglasses.

Asakusa by Night

Senso-ji lit after dark, Nakamise shuttered and the lanterns on. Quieter as the evening goes on.

Asakusa by night: a woman with a short bob under a red paper lantern, teal and pink neon blurred behind her, near Kaminarimon.

Evening portrait in a lantern-lit wooden alley: plaid shirt, black skirt and boots, seated on a low wooden stool, Tokyo.
Yukata portrait at night in a quiet Asakusa backstreet: a woman in a pale floral yukata and pink obi beside an old soba shop, bicycles against the wall, warm light from the sign.
Night portrait at the Shibuya crossing: a figure under an umbrella, taxi lights and signs blurred behind, the busiest corner of Tokyo as a backdrop.
A couple in white t-shirts laughing beside a big red paper lantern in a narrow Shibuya alley at dusk, a couple photoshoot in Tokyo.
Night street portrait in Shibuya: black-framed glasses, cream ribbed turtleneck, hands on hips and a look upward, neon signs and passers-by behind.

A couple kissing under the five-storey pagoda of Senso-ji lit at night, Asakusa: a night couple photoshoot in Tokyo.
Wedding portrait in a Shimokitazawa backstreet: the bride seated in a strapless white gown and long veil with her bouquet, the groom standing in a grey three-piece suit and blue tie, string lights behind them.
Daytime street portrait in Shibuya under red paper lanterns: round sunglasses, long locs and a shearling coat over a black turtleneck, the backstreets in winter light.

That was out of expectation ( in a good way!) ! We were travellers for outdoor couple photo shooting in Tokyo Tower area, we booked the session with Jean because from the website we knew he speaks English and unlike the others it has clear price tag and products showcases which is very transparent. We also had a few conversations about the styles, ideas before the day. On the actual day, Jean turned up on time with his professional gears, alongside his energy and passion, we liked the tempo so much that not too overwhelming ,we felt comfortable and relax, the shooting process was full of joy! We definitely overtime and we also like about Jean's generosity and honesty. We enjoyed the end products as much as the process, if we come back with special occasion, we will for sure go back to Jean for shooting or possibly give it a go to the studio one as well. Enjoy guys if that comes to your turn!

What can we say? It is hard to put our experience with Jean-Guillaume into words, it was simply fabulous! He truly enriched our trip; thanks to him, an already perfect stay became sublime. And we are not only talking about the quality of the photos (wonderful memories for us) but about the whole experience. Professional, serious and friendly, he knows how to put you at ease and does not hesitate to take you to little corners that only he knows! Beyond the shoot, we especially appreciated his enthusiasm for sharing Japanese culture, history and traditions with us. It was a joy to discover and learn alongside him! A wonderful encounter we will not forget any time soon! Thank you! Hélène and Quentin

Amazing Experience with an Outstanding Photographer! I had the pleasure of working with JG recently, and I couldn't be more impressed! From the moment we met, he had such a relaxed, easy-going attitude that made me feel totally at ease. JG is not only incredibly friendly but also very patient, taking the time to ensure that every shot was just right without making me feel rushed. What I really appreciated was his willingness to explore new locations and recommend unique spots that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. He truly went above and beyond, acting not just as a photographer, but as an excellent tour guide too! It felt more like a fun adventure than a photo session. I loved how JG took the time to explain different angles and suggestions, making sure I was comfortable every step of the way. If you're looking for someone who's not just talented but also easy to work with, JG is the perfect choice. Highly recommend!

We had the most amazing photoshoot experience with JG! From the moment we met in Shibuya, we knew we were in good hands. As it was our first professional photoshoot, we were both a bit nervous, but JG made us feel very comfortable and relaxed. The photos turned out absolutely stunning with beautiful edits that perfectly captured the essence of our relationship and the energy of Shibuya. We were also given a tour of the areas where we were photographed, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to the entire experience. JG is not only talented but also incredibly accommodating and attentive to our needs and preferences. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a professional photographer in Tokyo!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a tour, and how many photographs do I get?

Thirty, sixty or ninety minutes in one neighbourhood, with six, twelve or eighteen photographs retouched by hand.

Where can the tour take place?

In one of four neighbourhoods: Shibuya or Shinjuku, by day or by night; Shimokitazawa by day; or Asakusa by night. One neighbourhood per tour, starting from its meeting point.

Where do we meet?

At a meeting point in the neighbourhood you choose. Its exact place, with a map link, is in your confirmation email as soon as your tour is booked.

Can more than one person be photographed?

Yes. Couples are the same price.

What should I wear?

Whatever you would like to be photographed in. Outdoors the background can be busy, so plain colours hold up better than patterns. Come light as well, since anything you are carrying tends to end up in the frame.

What happens if it rains?

If rain is forecast, we choose a new date. If that is not possible, the tour is cancelled with a full refund.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Yes, from the link in your confirmation email. Cancel at least 24 hours before your booking and you receive a 90% refund. Within 24 hours, the booking can no longer be changed or refunded.

What if I arrive late?

The time starts at the meeting point, and the tour ends as booked even if you arrive late. More than 15 minutes late counts as a no-show and is not refunded.

When do I get the photographs?

A private gallery within 24 hours of the tour for you to choose your photographs, then delivery within seven days of your selection.

Can I have the unedited files?

Yes, on request. They are the frames as they came out of the camera, with no retouching.

How is this different from a studio session?

A 12-photograph studio session runs two to three hours and every photograph is retouched in detail, which is why it costs ¥120,000. Outdoors, twelve photographs take an hour and the finish is lighter. Colour, contrast and skin kept natural rather than worked over.

How and when do I pay?

By credit card, in advance, when you book online.
